SOILGUARD M36: Advancing Soil Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Potsdam

On June 5-7, 2024, the SOILGUARD project consortium gathered in Potsdam, Germany, to review progress on creating a global framework for assessing soil biodiversity and its contributions to soil multifunctionality and human well-being.

The meeting covered key topics such as:

  • Progress on the network of knowledge and valuation of soil-mediated ecosystem services
  • Ongoing research on conservation strategies and ecosystem services prediction
  • Dissemination and communication updates to ensure project alignment with future goals
  • Financial preparations to meet upcoming project requirements
  • Review of technical reports to prepare for the upcoming project review


Leitat actively contributed to the meeting by Presenting updates on the development of the Soil Biodiversity and Wellbeing Framework (SBWF) through the Network of Knowledge, Sharing recent achievements, such as the completion of the strategic plan (D1.1) and the relaunching of the advisory group (AG) engagement strategies and Leading workshops focused on soil management tools (SSM, SOILGUARDIAN App) and engaging with 35 soil-related initiatives, including the EU Soil Mission and Global Soil Partnership

The consortium had the opportunity to visit the Institute for Ecological Economy Research and the Institute of Environmental Science and Geography facilities, providing valuable insights into cutting-edge research in environmental science.
