FERTIMANURE Final Event: Showcasing Circular Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture in Brussels

The consortium of FERTIMANURE project, consisting of 21 partners, gathered on April 16th-17th, 2024, in Brussels for its final event.

Leitat participated in NERM 2024 (Nutrients in Europe Research Meeting: Towards Closing Nutrient Cycles for a Sustainable Future, from R&D to Implementation), a key event on nutrient recovery and bio-based fertilising products. Over two days, experts, policymakers, and researchers explored innovative technologies to recycle nutrients and reduce dependency on conventional fertilisers.

FERTIMANURE stood out as a success story, demonstrating how circular economy models can transform livestock manure into 31 market-ready fertilising products. Discussions highlighted the project’s five pilot sites across Europe and its role in bridging the gap between R&D and market adoption. The event also addressed challenges and opportunities for scaling these solutions, with Leitat reaffirming its leadership in advancing sustainable agricultural practices. This milestone underscores the vital role of collaboration in driving the bioeconomy forward.

Leitat participated in the Networking Event organized by the FER-PLAY and HOOP projects. Additionally, Leitat moderated Parallel Session I on “Technologies for Manure Management and Valorization”, contributing its expertise in innovative nutrient recovery strategies.

The consortium members visited The Detricon on-farm stripping-scrubbing unit in Hooglede, Belgium. This advanced manure treatment facility processes pig slurry to recover ammonium salts, reduce nitrogen emissions, and refine effluent into dischargeable water.
