SBR M54: Advancing Smart Bone Regeneration

The SBR project consortium, consisting of 10 partners, gathered online on February 8, 2024, to review progress in developing a smart, resorbable bone implant for treating large bone defects.

The meeting focused on key developments, including:

  • Design of patient-specific polymeric implants
  • Integration of biocompatible sensors for real-time monitoring
  • Genetic modifications to enhance regenerative properties
  • Advancements in sensor materials and in vitro optimization
  • Preclinical testing updates, including large animal models and regulatory alignment

As the project moves closer to the final preclinical phase, the consortium is refining strategies to prepare for clinical applications, reinforcing its commitment to transforming bone defect treatment.

During the meeting, Leitat presented key advancements, including the printing of bioinks for the biosensor or the development of a biosensor for TGF-beta1, an inflammatory marker.
