SOLSTICE M6 Amsterdam at Circle Economy

The consortium of the SOLSTICE project, consisting of 24 partners, gathered from November 25th to 27th, 2024 in Amsterdam at Circle Economy to discuss the following key agenda items:

The three-day SOLSTICE project meeting, part of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, focused on advancing its mission to transform plastic waste management through its 5R strategy. Pilots are set to take place in four representative EU territories—France, Italy, Germany, and Spain—serving as models for broader replication.

The first day included administrative updates, progress reviews on deliverables and milestones, and detailed planning for upcoming phases to ensure alignment with the project’s objectives. On the second day, discussions highlighted stakeholder engagement, updates to project metrics, and collaborative working group sessions to refine strategies and address challenges. An on-site visit to Makers Unite in Amsterdam on the final day showcased practical applications of repair and reuse, directly supporting the project’s goals. The meeting reinforced SOLSTICE’s commitment to providing solutions for increasing clothing recycling, which currently stands at only 20%, with just 1% of it being converted into new textiles.

During the meeting, Leitat showcased its activities, including:

• Advancement on the new chemical recycling process of Polyurethane-coated textile waste, which will be upcycled into added-value products in collaboration with Cromogenia and INDRESMAT.

Beyond the working sessions, the consortium members had the opportunity to visit the United Repair Center of Makers Unite, further exploring the project’s alignment with practical applications in circularity.
