ASINA M48: Advancing Safe-by-Design Nano-Manufacturing at CastelBrando, Italy

The consortium of ASINA project, consisting of 25 partners, gathered on February 27th, 2024, at CastelBrando, Cison di Valmarino, Italy, for its final meeting.

The ASINA project has successfully concluded its activities, marking a significant milestone in the development of safe-by-design (SbD) solutions for nano-enabled products (NEPs). The project focused on methodologies that integrate safety into the design and production processes of nano-products, particularly in environmental nanotechnology coatings and nano-encapsulation for cosmetics.

During the meeting, the team showcased the results of real-world pilot actions that validated the ASINA-SMM methodology in industrial settings. These efforts have paved the way for broader adoption of data-driven, safety-focused practices in nano-product manufacturing. Additionally, discussions around case study applications and expert feedback highlighted the project’s strong potential for future industry implementation. As the project wraps up, a roadmap has been set to ensure the continued impact of the ASINA methodology, promoting safer and more sustainable nano-manufacturing in the coming years.

Leitat presented the final results of experiments examining the release of silver nanoparticles on polyester fabrics, as well as a Nano-Risk Assessment evaluating the safety of textiles with antibacterial silver nanoparticles during typical use. Both tasks contributed to ensuring the safe application of nano-enabled products in everyday life.

The Final Event of ASINA took place at CastelBrando, one of the largest and oldest castles in Europe, offering a remarkable setting to celebrate the project’s achievements.
